Originating in the 1950s, they began painting landscapes to earn a living and assert their identity during a time of racial segregation. Their unique approach to art involved fast painting, creating a high volume of inexpensive works that bypassed traditional galleries. The group's success is remarkable, with an estimated 200,000 paintings created. Their vibrant and picturesque landscapes- often depicting Florida's Everglades, swamps, beaches, rivers, full moons, wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets- have become iconic and are now highly valued by collectors.
